Bharti Airtel Wednesday launched high-speed fourth generation or 4G services on the 1800 MHz spectrum band using FD LTE technology in Bengaluru.
India’s top telecom operator is already offering similar services in the area using TD LTE technology on the 2300 MHz spaectrum band.
With this, Airtel 4G in the IT capital of India will now operate in dual spectrum bands of 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz, it said in a statement.
Sunil Mittal-driven telco launched 4G services in the city in 2012 on the 2300 Mhz band using the TD LTE standard.
With today’s launch, Bengaluru is among the first few cities in India to enjoy the power of an integrated 4G network using TD and FD carriers, Airtel said.
“We launched the city-first 4G network and have received very good response from customers. Given the explosive growth of mobile data services and content consumed on mobiles, the addition of a second 4G carrier will surely add to the experience of the customers on our network, C Surendran, CEO – Karnataka, Bharti Airtel said.
To avail the complimentary 4G upgrade and use first integrated FD and TD 4G mobile internet speeds, existing Airtel customers with 4G-ready mobile devices can walk into their nearest Airtel Store and switch to a 4G SIM, the statement added.
