Huawei has announced plans to spend C$303 million to add as many as 250 new research and development workers to its Ontario, Canada operations over the next two years.
Huawei currently employs 600 people in Canada, with more than half already based in Ontario.
“Ontario has a vibrant innovation ecosystem that we’ve been proud to be part of for the past six years, so we’re incredibly excited about expanding our research and development facilities in the province,” said Ken Hu, chief executive officer of Huawei.
The move is part of a previously announced plan to hire 320 extra staff by 2019, but the hiring rate has been accelerated.
The new staff hires will be focused on developing 5G technologies.
