You’ll have to register the mobile number to get access to the free facility. After 30 minutes of usage, users will get an SMS alert stating that as free usage time is about to expire, they can avail various range of top-ups to extend the user time. However, commuters are clueless on how to extend the user time. There was no clear instruction from the officials concerned, commuters alleged.
Senior officials from Trichy railway division told TOI that they were working to provide a top-up facility.
Wi-Fi facility has been provided at the Trichy International Airport and Thanjavur Big Temple by BSNL. Passengers and devotees who visit airport and the temple have the option to continue their browsing using a top-up facility.
RailTel Corporation is providing Wi-Fi services at 100 ‘A1’ and ‘A’ category railway stations across the country in partnership with Google. A total of 18 access switches and 44 access points have been installed at all the seven platforms at Trichy junction.
The minister inaugurated the high speed Wi-Fi service through video conferencing from Chennai. Tamil Nadu minister for tourism Vellamandi N Natarajan, minister for backward classes and minorities welfare S Valarmathi, corporation mayor A Jaya, MP P Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP T Rathinavel, divisional railway manager AK Agarwal and other senior officials from Trichy railway division attended the function.
